Getting started
mdvju reads a folder of Markdown notes on your iPhone. Setting it up is one choice: which folder.
1. Get your notes onto the phone
mdvju reads notes from a folder you can see in the Files app, either in iCloud Drive or in On My iPhone.
- Obsidian vault in iCloud: it’s already there, usually in iCloud Drive › Obsidian › your vault.
- Obsidian vault stored on the phone (for example with Obsidian Sync): it’s in On My iPhone › Obsidian › your vault.
- Any other notes: any folder of
.mdfiles works, whether you put it there yourself or another app keeps it in sync.
2. Pick the folder
The first time you open mdvju, it goes straight to Notes Source.
- Choose Folder on this device.
- The Files picker opens. Find your vault or notes folder and pick it (pick the folder itself, not a note inside it).
- That’s it. mdvju remembers the folder from now on.
The first time, mdvju looks through the folder to build its list of notes. For a large folder in iCloud this can take a moment. Notes that iCloud hasn’t downloaded yet are listed anyway and download when you open them.
You can change the folder later in Settings › Notes Source.
3. Open a note
Tap the screen to show the buttons, then open the note list. From there you can:
- pick one of your recent notes,
- search by name,
- browse your folders,
- or open a favourite.
Tap a note to read it. Tap a wikilink to go to the next one, and use back to return.
